Title: Upper School Humanities and Bible Teacher

Bio: Attended: Westmont College; Chapman University; Colorado Christian College; Southern New Hampshire University Degrees: B.A. English and a B.A. in Philosophy; secondary education teaching credential; M.A. Instruction and Curriculum Design; M.A. English Literature in progress Joined Providence in 2008 Chris Elwood’s extensive background in education begins with his several degrees. With earning those came a love of literature, history, and philosophy, which led him to join the Providence faculty. He teaches humanities and senior Bible courses. Mr. Elwood loves the interdisciplinary approach to learning through a Christian lens. Being able to discuss literature, philosophy, and history in this way has enriched the experience for him.

He also coaches the Westmont mens tennis. He is a four-time Santa Barbara Open Tennis Doubles Champion and has coached a college player to a national championship in singles while serving as the head men’s tennis coach at Westmont College. Chris Elwood grew up as a missionary kid in the Philippines and speaks two dialects. He and his wife, Tabitha, are the parents of two daughters, both currently enrolled in the Providence Upper School. His favorite Providence traditions are the dress-up days and the skit night during the Middle and Upper School retreat.
