THEATER

The goal of the Providence theater program is to develop young artists who can confidently and persuasively express themselves physically, verbally, and through elements of design. It is not uncommon for a student who is soft spoken in class to transform into an outgoing—even outrageous— persona on stage. Such transformation is accomplished in a welcoming, supportive environment focused on group effort, hard work, and pursuing artistic excellence.

Dramatic play, a cornerstone of the Preschool program, develops imaginations, leading to ??? in the Lower School.

Middle School students have opportunities to choreograph and perform in the Broadway Musical Revue program they present each fall.

After-school theater electives offer technical and performance opportunities for all students. We have a musical theater production each year that is open to students in Lower School through Upper School. Professional directors and designers from the community work alongside the faculty musical director to create a fully-produced show. Students have generous opportunities to learn the theatrical, musical, and technical aspects of producing a show. Past productions have included You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Twelfth NightThe Importance of Being EarnestThe Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Les Miserables, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Music Man.

Theater performances at Providence include:

  • Middle School Chorus Fall Musical Revue (choreographed Broadway show tunes)
  • All-School Spring Musical Production
